Famous Acoustic Guitarists Of The 20th Century
There is no denying that electric guitars have a certain sexy allure. After all, crowds of screaming teenage fans can't be wrong, can they? Don't answer that. At any rate, the appeal of the electric guitar is such that it sometimes threatens to completely eclipse its acoustic cousin. It's understandable, since the glitz and the glamour associated with rock and roll's electric guitar are usually noticeably lacking with the more traditional instrument. Fortunately for us all, it's highly unlikely that the acoustic guitar will ever completely give way to its flashy cousin, especially not as long as talented artists continue to produce wonderful music. Thanks to these individuals, just a few of whom are included below, the acoustic guitar continues to enjoy the popularity it has created since its inception.
If you weren't familiar with the music of Johnny Cash (1932-2003) before the debut of Hollywood's recent "Walk the Line, " you probably are now. The recently deceased Mr. Cash was a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and one of the most influential American musicians of the last century. His career lasted nearly fifty years, during which time he sold over 90 million albums. His music involved cross-genre success and his legacy includes the music of country, rock and roll, folk, blues and gospel. He continues to be one of history's most famous acoustic guitar artists.
Another artist who continues to ensure the popularity of the acoustic guitar is country music's Bonnie Raitt (1949-Present). Ms. Raitt's music is primarily of the blues, blues rock and country genres, but like Mr. Cash before her, she has enjoyed crossover success and several of her songs have enjoyed general popularity. She has received a total of nine Grammy Awards (so far) and in 2000, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has occasionally been known as much for her leftist political views as for her music, but that has never outshone the quality of her artistry.
Sheryl Crow (1962-Present) has done a great deal for the image of the acoustic guitar over the past two decades. She first came to the attention of the general public in 1994 when her song "All I Wanna Do" became an unexpected smash hit (I still remember that video on MTV). Since then, she has had a steady 20+ years of success and has performed with such high profile artists as Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, and The Rolling Stones. Her genres include rock, country, pop rock, blues-rock and folk, although it is her pop rock music that tends to gain the most commercial success.
Jewel Kilcher (1974-Present), generally known simply by her first name, Jewel, has received three Grammy Aware nominations and has sold over 27 million albums worldwide. Her genres include pop, folk, pop rock, adult contemporary and country, and her music inevitably features her acoustic guitar skills. Although some would argue that her career has declined in recent years, the songs of her first albums remain as fixtures on the playlists of radio stations across the United States as well as other countries.

What do you think of my introduction?
I've had this idea swirling around my head for a few days now and just wondered what you guys thought. (I've had to split it into two because it wouldn't all fit into the first part lol)
People expect life to be easy; why shouldn?t it be when we don?t have a choice? We?re born, thrown into a world that we will never understand and then we grow up being shunned from place to place, emotionally blackmailed into doing things we don?t want to do and then it?s hit and miss. Will we be thrown into the golden city of fame and fortune or will we be spewed, vomited into the gutter where we?ll live out our days in poverty; ignored by the wealthier class and forgotten about when we die?
History shows us that the wealthier classes had an advantage over the lesser but, in the end, it didn?t matter; we all end up the same way. We all die and go to a place where money and material items are worthless but Life is what you make it and Benny was doing just that, making everything work for her until her world is turned upside down with one tragic accident.
*
The room was pure white, it hurt my eyes. I was sitting on the edge of a metal bed with a thin, plastic, mattress with my feet dangling off the edge. I blinked at my toes, momentarily realising that I had nothing on my feet but the thought passed and I was distracted by the flickering light above me. It was irritating me; I looked around for a light switch but was unsuccessful in my search.
Sighing, I shuffled slightly on the bed and jumped a little when something rustled beneath me. Sliding carefully back and looking down, I saw that a paper sheet was covering the mattress. I frowned at it and then started to wonder why I was here until a voice broke through my thought barrier.
?Benny??
I jolted so hard that I cricked my neck as I searched for the voice. A new pain had surfaced. ?Can you turn off the lights please?? I asked as I rubbed my neck and squinted at a man who was sitting across the room in a black, leather armchair with a clipboard and a pen. He was a beautiful young man with tanned skin and blonde dreadlocks which hung just passed his ears. Some were shorter than others and dirty but his light blue eyes caught mine and I was transfixed.
The black suit he?d donned looked out of place; he looked smart but he is the kind of guy I?d imagine surf boarding in Hawaii or plucking at a guitar on the beach surrounded by friends; dressed in nothing but board shorts, sandals and cool guy sunglasses whatever the weather.
?Are they bothering you?? He asked softly.
?Yes? I reply ?the flickering is hurting my eyes.?
He tilted his head upward and sought out the flickering light before turning to the dial on the wall and twisting it, making the lights dim. ?Is that better?? I nod rather than speak, watching him with interest. ?Benny, do you know who I am??
I wanted to say yes but, surely, a face as perfect as his wouldn?t have been forgotten ?no, should I??
?My name is Ronan and you have met me before but it?s ok, we?re trying to take things slowly.?
?Take things slowly,? I frowned at him ?what are you talking about??
Ronan didn?t answer my question; instead he asked me another ?what did you do yesterday, can you remember??
Yesterday? I closed my eyes and smiled as my meadow came into view. The colours and smells in my memory are so vivid that I truly believed that it was real but...where was it? I didn?t recognise anything other than the meadow and I started to panic; the colours were fading and all I could hear was a loud, sharp, metallic screech. My eyes whipped open and I was back in the white room. My hands were covering my ears and my breathing was coming in short bursts. I was now sitting on the floor though I didn?t remember slipping from the bed.
Ronan was kneeling beside me; his hand on my arm and his face just two inches from mine. I pulled back in shock of seeing him so close. ?Are you ok?? When I nodded he asked ?what did you remember??
?A meadow? my voice sounded breathless, as though I?d been running for a long time and my heart was pounding. I didn?t feel safe, I felt as though someone was searching for me. ?Am I safe here??
?Why wouldn?t you be?? He asked as he relaxed into a sitting position and crossed his legs.
I shrugged ?I just don?t feel...? my words trailed into nothingness as I tried to remember question I was answering. ?I?m sorry? I shook my head ?what did you say? I can?t remember.?
A hopeful spark in Ronan?s eyes flickered and died though his facial expression didn?t falter. I?d disappointed him and or some reason this seemed to upset me. ?I asked you why you didn?t feel safe.?
?I feel safe? I told him as I looked around. The room I was in was white and I noticed that there was a window beside a door bu
but the blinds had been pulled down. Silhouettes passed by on the other side, walking and talking loudly though I couldn?t catch the words, only the laughter of some. The sound of a scribbling pen caught my attention and I turned to see a handsome young man sitting beside me ?what?s your name?? I asked him in interest as I reached out to touch a strand of his dreadlocked hair.
?My name is Ronan, Benny, remember??
?Of course, Ronan...? I stroked the lock before pulling my hand back and setting in my lap with my other.
Ronan wrote for a moment or two longer before looking back at me and smiling ?now, can you tell me what you remembered doing yesterday??
A meadow filled my vision and I nodded ?I was in a meadow.?
?Can tell me about this meadow??
?Of course? I smiled ?it?s beautiful...all of the colours are perfect and the smell.? Sighing, I closed my eyes and felt the warmth of the sun on my skin but when I opened them again the world was on fire. I yelped and leapt up, smacking my
Sorry, it didn't work out like I'd hoped. So I'll give you a link; hopefully it reads better and no, this isn't written in the style of the hunger games...this is just how I write.
