Learn To Play Guitar Online - Why This Method Is The Better Choice
The
guitar is the most used musical instrument in the world. But why? Could it be because it is so easy to bring anywhere? Or because you can easily sing along with it? Or, as David Gilmore of Pink Floyd have said before, "when you strum a
guitar you have everything. Bass, rhythm and melody". No matter the reason, it has become the most popular instrument to learn. And it doesn't make it easy when you have thousands of different ways to learn the guitar available to you. Many just fall short of quality.
Let us take a look at the choices for guitar lessons for beginners:
1 Private Guitar Lessons
Private guitar instruction is the most known way of learning the guitar. This method works great if you can find a good instructor. You would want an instructor who specializes in the specific genre of music you are interested in, otherwise you will be changing instructors constantly. It is good to know that private instructions do get expensive and might be too much for people on a tight budget.
2 Guide Books
This saves you a lot of money, but you must be very self motivated. The thing is, guide books can only give you pictures of where to place your fingers. You can't tell if it sounds right or even if you guitar is in tune. I would recommend books for students that have taken lessons before and would like to take more advanced lessons. Anyway, it is good to have a guide book for reference. You can't argue with the price either. This is definitely the cheapest way to learn the guitar. I was able to learn my first six guitar chords from a guitar book, and that's without anyone helping me.
3 DVD's & Video Instruction
These work great. This method has improved over the years by 10 fold. The video quality is excellent and they have perfected the lessons over the years from frequently asked questions of students. However, you will most likely be taught by one instructor only and will need to purchase new DVD's to get the updated lessons. All in all a perfect place to start!
4 Online Guitar Lessons
There is huge excitement over online guitar lessons in the guitar industry and there is a good reason for it. It is the closest to the private instruction as it can get. You have a lot more advantages with this method however. There are several instructors available. They are specialized in the genre you want to learn. Most online lessons allow you to ask instructors questions and you get the latest lessons. They also provide online communities, so you can communicate with other fellow guitar players, much like yourself. The prices are very reasonable compare to other methods. The price range is $12.95/mo to $19.95/mo, and you get taught by instructors with degrees such as Berkley School of Music. I would choose online guitar lessons over any other method to learn how to play the guitar. If it's beginner guitar lessons, or more advanced techniques you are looking for, they have them all.

How easy/difficult is it to transition from violin and piano to the guitar?
I've been learning the violin and piano for years. I found my dad's old guitar and his guitar books in the storage room recently and videos on Youtube have inspired me to try and learn the guitar. How easy it is it to teach myself if I know violin & piano already? Is there a rough estimate on how long it will take me to transition?
I'm playing Impromptu Fantasie by Chopin on the piano and Op. 64 by Mendelssohn on the violin at the moment, so I think I like to believe I'm fairly proficient with both instruments. :x

Guitar Book for medium Beginner?
Hi
I'v been `playing` guitar for about 2 months, but for about 2 hours a day.
I can play allot of power cords, do string bending, hammer ons, pull offs etc.
I'm looking for a proper book to teach myself, preferably that covers basics- but is aimed at someone who can play a little bit (I can play the main riffs to loads of popular rock songs, I'm after a book aimed at rock players). I'v got `Total Rock Guitar` which is pretty good, but I'm wondering if there's anything else to look at?
Thank

Choosing an instrument?
So basically i've tried a few instruments and styles and let's say i suck so much.
I went to play electric guitar for a few months and quit because everyone(my friends) progressed way faster and i even had lessons. So 3 years later i'm interested in Piano. Do about 7 months in that and quit because all i had was a synthesizer and just could'nt stand it. During piano , i joined a school choir for a year and my singing is horrible. I'm a baritone and have a very small range. I took even voice lessons for about 3 months til i quit since the teacher didn't care about me she cared about the money. I do acoustic guitar for 7 months and i actually learned alot but quit because it was stupid to pay some guy to give me homework out of a guitar book i bought when i could read that stuff by myself. So I have a keyboard, bass, acoustic, classical guitar,acoustic-electric and i play everything like a beginner. I feel like music isn't my thing.
