Guitar Delonge - Easy Tips On Playing Fast Guitar Like Blink 182

Blink 182 is known for having very high-energy performances on guitar with the help of Tom Delonge. Delonge has a knack for following the fast tempos on his guitar no matter how fast Travis Barker decides to drum.

Fortunately for you, it isn't too difficult to train your fingers, muscles, and mind for that same style of fast guitar playing. Here are a few tips that can increase the speed of your guitar action up to Tom Delonge status.

* Be meticulous about your technique.

If you plan on practicing everything sloppily just to get though it and move on to the next exercise, then you're not really going through the process to gain speed. Starting with every guitar riff slowly and gaining speed over time will help you to be attentive to detail when your playing is crazy fast.

* Warm up with finger stretches.

Just like any other muscle in the body, you don't work it out before you've gone through some nice stretches. Keep your hands healthy like Delonge and hold some minor stretches on your fingers before you hit the guitar for a practice session.

* Give your wrists a nice stretch.

If your fingers need it, then why not your wrists too? Pull your wrists back slowly until you feel the stretch and hold there for five or six counts. You'll find your movement around the fret board to be a little less cumbersome.

* Practice aggressive chord changes.

You may have noticed that Tom Delonge uses mostly power chords throughout Blink 182's music, but the rate at which he changes is pretty fast. Focus on switching between only a few chords at a time. Once your formations are perfect, move on to more challenging progressions while increasing your speed.

Learning to play faster is flashy and impressive onstage, but isn't worth the effort if there's no attention to detail. Remember to be very particular about your own playing methods and you'll find the speed to come later.
