Teach Yourself Acoustic Guitar

Have you ever listened to your favorite song played on acoustic guitar and wondered if you can pull of that same simple but incredibly melodic artistry? Of course you can always teach yourself how to play an acoustic guitar and find out for yourself. After all, even some of the greatest musicians of all time started playing by first teaching themselves to do it. So let's cover the basics.

Get the right guitar. Now before you start picking out expensive acoustic guitars, understand what type of guitar would fit your style and preference better. It does not have to cost too much. You can go to several music stores and start your musical education by learning the feel of guitars and considering what's more comfortable to play with.

You can start off with a Martin LX1 or an Epiphone DR-100. As a beginner, these acoustic beginner guitars can be cheap and, at the same time, work wonders. But you may soon want to trade them up as your skill develops. You can also try scouting music stores for secondhand acoustic guitars that offer great quality as well. Whatever your pick may be, follow your budget and see if the guitar works for you.

Practice on Chords. You can download guitar chords online or get one on music stores. Study the chords and practice them routinely on your guitar. Practice changing from one chord to the next to get the hang of it.

Learn the songs. There are lots of songs out there that are suited for novices you may want to practice on. Try some Pink Floyd or Jack Johnson and even Plain White T's. Don't try to be a hero and get into the complicated riffs just yet. Practicing on simple songs does not only let you learn the basics of acoustic guitar, it also allows you to work out the challenges and techniques into each song you learn to play.

Jam with other musicians. You may be surrounded by musicians whose expertise also lies with acoustic guitar, and chances are, you already know them. Do not be afraid to go out there and play a bit of music. The prospect of learning from and keeping up with another guitarist is also part of your musical journey. There are always new tricks to pick up.

Work on your exercises. Once you get the hang of it, do not forget to keep up with your guitar exercises to continue to develop your skills. Constantly practicing new riffs, licks, and strumming will let you know how far you are going, considering you merely started learning on your own.

Where can I find good quality acoustic guitar for a beginner?
I recently purchased a Lyon guitar by Washburn at Target for around $100. The sound quality is poor and when i played a chord or note it seemed to make this strange hissing or rattling sound...So i took it back and am looking for a quality non expensive acoustic guitar. I'm willing to spend anywhere from a $100 - $200. Also the guitar I purchased earlier was really hard on the fingers. You had to press down so hard on the strings just to get a decent sound. And my fingers where sore after an hour of playing. I believe it had steel strings...are nylon strings easier on the fingers? I heard about Esteban's guitar and i had seen it on HSN and QVC ...idk Any help would be greatly appreciated

what guitar should I get?
hi, I have been playing for over 3 years now and I do lots of gigs so I decided I would save up to buy a really good acoustic e.g. Martin, Gibson, nick Benjamin or Taylor. I really like Newton Faulkner at the moment so I am interested in getting a Jumbo Orchestra Model or Orchestra Model (both nick Benjamin) but my dad said that for that kind of money I should consider all the options e.g. Play a Gibson acoustic, a martin acoustic etc. etc. My dad also went to America recently and played a Gibson J45 and said it was lovely. One day I might go to Sussex with my dad to play a nick Benjamin guitar. here are questions : What UK stores stock expensive acoustic guitars? What models would you recommend and how much are they? Please try to answer as many as possible. Thanks much Harry
